How to sponsor a local team or club

Local sponsorship is good for business

“Crazy cat doesn’t sponsor the team for any financial benefit we do it to support grassroots rugby”

As a family, we have been involved with HRFC for many years as our son played & Al coached. Sport & rugby specifically brings huge benefits to Adults, children & their families in many ways and we are proud to be able to lend some financial support to ensure the team has the facilities, kit, and training gear they need.

Why did we choose to sponsor a local club?

1. Community benefits

We know from personal experience the huge benefits that being part of a club brings children, adults & families as a whole. You literally gain a whole new family a social life emotional and physical support to name but a few.

2. Family interests

Those with children were more likely to invest in their team and so do the aunts uncles and grandparents! Many parents would not be able to afford a new kit if it wasn’t for local sponsorship. It keeps the child and the family within the rugby community.

3. Company branding

Company logos on shirts & advertising boards will be visible week after week.

4. Just ask!

When we first started to raise funds for our son’s team we had no experience. We asked local businesses, prominent local people and that’s how word spread that we needed help. We also managed to rope in our local curry house and a pub or 2!

5. Financial ability

Thriving companies are in a perfect position to put something back into the community but you need to be brave enough to ask. Many turned us down as they already made contributions to other causes but a few didn’t and they were with us for 5+ years.

Sponsorship should be seen as a mutually beneficial relationship between the two organisations. Businesses may get good publicity, it creates valuable goodwill – teams get new shirts, drinks bottles, first aid kits, and facilities.

Of course, big clubs need the big boy sponsorships but it doesn’t have to be considered the domain of big business, there are plenty of excellent opportunities for small local companies.

Local sponsorship doesn’t have to be in sport, for example, art exhibitions, charities, school project or volunteering groups are all willing to receive a boost to their coffers however small.

“Sponsorship is a long-term relationship, and as such many of the benefits come in the long term.”

So what are you waiting for – if you’re part of a local club – be brave & go out there and ask for sponsorship?

If you’re a local business then try approaching a club that you are interested in following,  offer to help support them. You may find a whole new family out there!

Decaf coffee can help you sleep

When you’re sleeping you’re healing

One of the many quotes from my mother in law and one that we live by in this family.

I wasn’t aware of my sleeping habits until I had children and then it hit me like a thunderbolt. The effect of sleep deprivation is horrendous.

Our sleeping patterns have changed over the past 30years or so and many think it’s for the worse.

The western hemisphere has the worse sleeping patterns on the planet, we sleep less and our quality of sleep has decreased.

Yes, we are all going to blame the need to be switched on to one form of  Social media or another but we do have the power to hit the off button especially at night time.Decaf Coffee

Why you need good sleep

  • In both children & adults, poor sleep is associated with increased risk of weight & obesity
  • Good sleep can enhance memory & maximize your problem-solving skills.
  • Scarily the less good sleep you get the increased risk of heart disease & stroke goes up.
  • Those with sleeping disorders are more likely to show signs of depression
  • When we sleep we heal – getting the sleep you need can improve your immune function.
  • Sleep deprivation affects the way we interact with people usually in a negative way. We’re tired and cranky.

Ignore your sleep at your peril as you simply cannot be healthy & happy when you don’t have enough sleep.

If you love coffee but it’s keeping you awake at night then switch to our Decaf.

We have actually found a Decaf that has the taste of regular coffee but hardly any of the caffeine kick.

Decaf coffee

No Caffeine or Decaffeinated – is there a difference?

“Decaffeinated” does not mean 100% caffeine free. Most ground coffee still has between 5-10% caffeine so be careful about your choice of coffee.

Test the amount of caffeine you drink – if you have an adverse reaction then reduce it or cut it out.

But then that goes for everything we humans do be it relationships, jobs, exercise.

I say  “If it hurts don’t do it” 🤗

Our decaffeinated coffee uses the Mexican mountain washing process removes 99.5-99.9% of caffeine. It’s as close as you can get without losing the dark Italian roast strength.

If you would like to try Crazy Cat Decaffeinated Coffee it’s available via Amazon.co.uk. Click the link or the image below.

Decaf coffee can help you sleep

Coffee & sleep a match made in heaven or hell?

The effect of caffeine on the body can be, in some people be sudden and dramatic, in others, none existent.

Coffee keeps me awake but not my fellow bedmate. Whilst I’m still wide awake at 3am he’s happily in the land of nod.

According to a BBC article dated back  2015 Coffee has a secret trick to stop sleep. Scientists say in their study, (Science Translation Medicine) showed caffeine was more than just a stimulant and actually slowed down the body’s internal clock.Decaf ground coffee

One of the researchers, Dr John O’Neill, from the Medical Research Council’s Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, studied cells grown in a dish that was exposed to caffeine to work out how it changed their ability to keep time.

It showed the drug (caffeine) was able to alter the chemical clocks ticking away in every cell of the human body.

Meanwhile, five people at the University of Colorado Boulder, in the US, were locked in a sleep laboratory for 50 days.

And as light exposure is the main way we normally control our body clock, they spent most of their incarceration in very dim light.

In a series of experiments over the month and a half, the scientists showed that an evening dose of caffeine slowed the body clock by 40 minutes.

It (caffeine) had roughly half the impact of three hours of bright light at bedtime.

Caffeine is the worlds most popular drug, found naturally in over 60 plants including the coffee bean, tea leaf, kola nut and cacao pod. Worldwide people consume Over 2.25 billion cups of coffee a day..that’s just coffee. Caffeine also turns up in tea, cocoa, chocolate, some soft drinks, and some drugs.

While it is important to note that caffeine cannot replace sleep, it can temporarily make us feel more alert by blocking sleep-inducing chemicals in the brain and increasing adrenaline production.

Sleep deprivation can make you feel awful. Waking up tired, cranky and out of sorts not only affects you but also the people you come into contact with.

How to get more sleep:

Natural Sleep Foundation recommends practicing the following sleep tips:

  • Maintain a regular bed and wake time schedule including weekends
  • Establish a regular, relaxing bedtime routine such as taking a bath or listening to music
  • Create a sleep environment that is dark, quiet, comfortable and cool
  • Sleep on a comfortable mattress and pillows
  • Use your bedroom only for sleep and sex
  • Finish eating at least 2-3 hours before your regular bedtime
  • Exercise regularly but avoid it a few hours before bedtime
  • Avoid caffeine (e.g. coffee, tea, soft drinks, chocolate) close to bedtime
  • Don’t smoke — not only is it a major health risk it can lead to poor sleep
  • Avoid alcohol close to bedtime; it can lead to disrupted sleep later in the night

~~~Don’t forget to turn off your mobile phone/laptop ~~~leave them downstairs~~~invest in an old-fashioned alarm clock~~ you managed before you had a smartphone so you can do it again (unless you are a millennial!)
You could also try swapping your last cup of coffee for a Decaf – it’s hard to find a decaf that tastes like a decent cup of coffee, I know because we’ve tried!
But we have managed to source one – click the link for Crazy Cat Decaf.
How to buy a fresh ground coffee
Why I dislike Coffee Snobbery
Coffee snobbery
Don’t get me started on dissing the Decaf.
I love a good cup of freshly ground coffee, sitting amongst the hipster set in our local cafe and let’s face it other than sitting with Doris in the local charity shop there isn’t anywhere else left to sit.
I am about to upset the coffee aficionados again but really what’s it all about?
Well according to coffeekind.com making a Coffee (or Brew as they say over the pond) is a science.
Approaching it scientifically it makes sense that you weight your coffee before you pour your water over it (weighed of course but in milliliters)
You’ll need equipment, of course, you can’t be weighing it on your mums kitchen scales.
Ground coffee
That way you get the perfect brew – so what is the ration I hear you begging me for the information?
The industry says it’s 60g to 1 litre of water
Then they go onto to say that’s a starting point because if you like a stronger brew then add more coffee…not an exact science then?
“The reason we weigh coffee instead of measuring it by the scoop is because the same amount of coffee by weight takes up different amounts of volume depending on the grind. A teaspoon of coffee beans will not produce a teaspoon of ground coffee, but 15g of coffee beans will produce 15g of ground coffee, no matter how finely you grind it. In other words, when you weigh out 15g of coffee, it will always be the same amount of coffee. That’s important for the sake of getting consistent results.”
So hope it’s all clear now.
Drink whatever coffee you like.
